A Hampton man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault reported in May.
Jacob Shane Culler, 28, 181 Carver Crabtree Road, Hampton, was arrested Friday by Carter County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Mark McClain on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault. Culler was taken into custody by officers of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and held until Carter County officers could pick him up and serve the warrant.
According to the warrant for Culler’s arrest obtained by CCSD Capt. Jeff Markland, the charges stem from an incident on May 8 at a residence on Field Road after a man reported to the Sheriff’s Department that he had been assaulted.
“(The complainant) stated that he went to that address to visit a friend, and while he was there another male, whose identity was unknown to (the complainant) at that time, showed up at the residence,” Markland stated in the warrant. “(The complainant) stated that when he went to leave that he noticed that a pair of shoes had been taken from the inside of his car.”
Markland states in the warrant that the complainant said he then questioned the male subject, later identified as Culler, about the shoes and Culler became irate and struck him in the face.
“(The complainant) stated that at one point he fell to the ground and the male subject started kicking him and stomping him in the face and head,” Markland states in the warrant. “(The complainant) also had severe contusions and lacerations on his face and head. He also has damages to his teeth in which he is having to seek dental work.”
During the course of the investigation, Markland said in the warrant that Culler was developed as a suspect and was positively identified by the complainant through a photograph.
“Due to Mr. Culler kicking and stomping (the complainant) and the extent of the injuries, Jacob Culler is being charged with Aggravated Assault,” Markland said in the warrant.
Culler was transported to the Carter County Detention Center and was later released on bond.
