A county motorcyclist is facing multiple charges after he drew the attention of police who said he told them he was “showing off to his mom.”
Joseph Runyon, 20, 2013 Sunflower Lane, Watauga, received a summons from the Elizabethton Police Department on charges of driving on a revoked license first offense, financial responsibility and reckless driving.
In the incident report, EPD Officer Matt Croy said he received a report that a green motorcycle was being driven recklessly in the parking lot of McDonald’s. Croy said he saw the motorcycle go up Lynn Avenue, down Pine Street, Cottage Avenue and back to McDonald’s.
He wrote that when he approached the driver, identified as Runyon, the man told him “I know why you stopped me.”
“Runyon stated he ‘popped a wheelie’ in the parking lot showing off to his mom,” Croy wrote. “Mr. Runyon went on to state ‘I don’t have a license.’”
When Croy checked his history, it was discovered his license was revoked after a driving under the influence offense in 2013. According to the report, Runyon also told Croy that he did not have insurance.
In lieu of arrest, Runyon was issued a summons citation and was given a General Sessions court date of Oct. 6.
