Paul C. Gryder, 89, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Arlie and Bertha Arnold Gryder.
Mr. Gryder served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was retired from the Powerhouse at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church.
Mr. Gryder loved gardening and carpentry. He was an avid reader and a NASCAR Fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Stout Gryder, March 25, 2008; a son, Wayne Gryder; two brothers, Dan Gryder and J.R. Gryder; and two sisters, Maude Gryder and Ida Lou Campbell.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye and Thomas Lane and Debbie and Kelvin Crow; his grandchildren, Darrell and Melissa Matheson, Melissa and Chris Andes, Paula Gryder and fiancé John Holder, and Candy Harding; his great-grandchildren, Whitney Andes, Wesley Andes, Gabriel and Avery Harding; his step-grandchildren, Jeremy Williamson and Amy, Warren Lane, Karen Small, Kevin and Zulema Crow, Cody Crow and Kayla Crow; his step-great-grandchildren, Sarah Small, Caden Jenson and Rylee Jensen, Maci Holder and Josie Campbell; his sister-in-law, Jean Campbell; and his best friend and companion, Twiggie.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Gryder will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Cable officiating. Moments of Remembrance will be by the grandchildren. The Eulogy will be given by Tom Lane. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, in the Gryder Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his neighbors and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. James Battle III and the staff of Johnson City Eye Hospital, Dr. Devapiran Jaishankar, Nurse Whitney and Nurse Marcie Hardin. Military Honors will be provided by The American Legion and The United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
