Keturah Graybeal Hughes

Keturah Graybeal Hughes, 94, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 15, 2014, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, following an extended illness.
Keturah was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Watt and Anna Oliver Graybeal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine O. Hughes, in 1993, and by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of Lower Heaton Creek Holiness Church. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and flowers and she loved her farm.
Survivors include her daughter, Lathania Byrd, Roan Mountain; a granddaughter, Katrina Proffitt and husband Terry, and a grandson, Randy Byrd and wife Kim, all of Roan Mountain; three great-grandchildren, Mark Byrd and wife Brittany, Elizabethton, Daranda Morgan and husband Chad and Renee Proffitt, all of Roan Mountain; and three great-great-grandchildren, Ewyon McCoury, Savannah McCoury and Anikin Morgan, all of Roan Mountain.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Hughes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 18, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Rondal Lackey officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, September 19, in the Graybeal Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Friday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center and to the members of Lower Heaton Creek Holiness Church.
