The Carter County Election Commission has announced office hours and deadlines for the upcoming November election and is asking voters to update their addresses.
Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris has asked voters to go to the election office and update their address or register to vote if they have recently moved to Carter County. The election office is on the second floor of the Carter County Courthouse and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
An application may be printed off the state website at the following address http://state.tn.us/sos/election/ss-3010.pdf. After completing the printed application to register to vote, residents can mail it or take it to the Election Commission Office or drop the application off in person. Mail-in voter registration applications are also available at the library, at post offices, the Department of Human Services, the Carter County Health Department, and at the Department of Safety office in Carter County. The mailing address to send applications to is Carter County Election Commission; 801 E. Elk Ave., Room 207; Elizabethton, TN 37643.
“Persons who are 60 years of age or older and voters who are disabled or elderly and whose polling place is not accessible may choose to vote at the Election Commission office, or by mail, or during Early Voting,” Harris said.
The election will be held on Nov. 4 and will include local races for the City of Elizabethton and the City of Watauga, as well as races for state and federal offices. Early voting will be held from Oct. 15 through Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. On election day the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
During early voting voters from any district may vote at the courthouse, but on Election Day voters must cast their ballots at the precinct where they are registered.
The deadline to register to vote in the November election is Oct. 6.
