Otis B. Vines

Otis B. Vines, 80, of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Vines was a native of the Fish Springs Community in Butler and was a son of the late Grover and Bessie Timbs Vines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Hodge Vines; four brothers, Dean Vines, J.C. Vines, Raymond Vines and Winston Vines; three sisters, Orlena Gouge, Nell Cates, and Billie Taylor; one grandson, Jared Lyon; and one son-in-law, James Crabtree Jr.
Mr. Vines was retired from North American Rayon Corporation, where he had worked in the spinning unit. He was of the Baptist faith and was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include four children, Kim Lyon and husband Bret and Melissa Crabtree-Minton and husband James, all of Bluff City, Linda Berry, Hampton, and Jason T. Vines and wife Brandi, Roan Mountain; one brother, Ed Vines and wife Margie, of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Tyler Lyon, Jace Lyon, Molly Crabtree, Taylor Berry, Christopher Berry, Dalton Vines and Trinity Vines; and three sisters-in-law, Jean Hodge Banner, Geraldine Banner and Susan Hirner. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Otis B. Vines will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bret Lyon and Brother Joe Alvarado officiating. Special music will be under the direction of the Minton Family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, October 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Greg Banner, Tyler Lyon, Greg Trivette, Greg Andrews, Carl Calhoun, Patrick Trivette, Brian Taylor and Jimmy Scalf. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Andrews, Ray Campbell, “Big Ed” McNeil, Dennis Trivette, Raymond Montgomery and Arthur Elliott. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to James Gentry, Jimmy Scalf and Jeanice Scalf, for all the kindness shown to Mr. Vines during his illness.
