The Elizabethton High School Drama Club will present “Proof” tonight and tomorrow beginning at 7 p.m. at the school.

“Proof” tells the story of mathematician and the struggles his daughters face after he dies. The story was made into a movie featuring Gwyneth Paltrow in 2005.

“It is about math and it is about family and it is about everything else,” EHS Drama Club sponsor Meg Foster said.

The Drama Club usually puts on two productions each year, with “Proof” being the first for this year. The play was chosen to offer a difference from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” which the club did last year, Foster said.

“It is a new show, and it is relevant,” Foster said. “I knew it was the right time to do this because I knew I had the right people for the cast.”

The show is a small production with a four-person cast. Autumn Berry will play the role of Catherine; Josh Rice takes on the role of Robert; Ryan Leonard will play Hal and Jenny Diessenbacher will be playing Claire.

“It is a different production that we have done before,” Foster said. “There is a nuance in it, and a subtext. Acting is about getting to those subtleties but it needs to be big because it is on the stage. There is a challenge there and these students are up for it. It is a good play and these are talented students.”

Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. The play will be presented in the EHS Band Room.

The next play for the Drama Club will be “Alice in Wonderland” on May 8-9.
