The Elizabethton/Carter County United Way has finalized a 2016 goal and the roster of organizations that goal will support.
For its 2016 campaign, the United Way Board of Directors has approved to support 10 organizations with a goal of $161,000.
That money will support the same nine organizations as last year, but now Big Brother, Big Sister of the Greater Tri-Cities is included.
The new organization embraces this year’s theme of “Empowering a Caring Community,” United Way Director Cheri Tinney said.
“We’re excited to have them,” she said. “We are excited to grow and bring on a new organization.”
The other nine organizations are the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency’s Adult Day Services, American Red Cross of Northeast Tennessee, Assistance and Resource Ministry, Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, Sequoyah Council Boy Scouts of America, Contact Ministries 211, Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, First Tennessee Human Resource Agency’s Personal Support Services and Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency’s Elizabethton Neighborhood Service.
Tinney also announced that the entire board of directors is serving as the 2016 campaign chair. This makes them all responsible for promotion and the campaign’s overall success.
“We see ourselves having a really strong campaign this year because we have so many people behind it,” she said. “We will have 18 people instead of one.”
The key players on the United Way Board of Directors has changed slightly from last year. The board this year includes President Candy Craig, Secretary Ginger Lyons, Treasurer Andrew McKeehan, Tom Anderson, Greg Bowers, Keith Bowers Jr, Charlie Bowman, Dottie Brookshire, Kenny Carter, Jenni Duran, Mark Feuchtenberger, Kelly Geagley, Angela Lyons, Mike Miller, Kelly Roberts, Sharon Sheppard, Gary Smith, Debbie Street, Chris Hitechew and Kris Yarlett.
One of the next ways the community can support the United Way’s new campaign goal is by sponsoring and participating in a golf tournament set for Aug. 7.
Businesses have the option to sponsor a hole for $100, a cart for $50 or donate a door prize. The golf tournament format involves a team of four people participating in a captain’s choice 18-hole tournament. There’s also a chance to win $10,000 if a player can make a hole-in-one. The registration deadline is Aug. 3. The entry fee is $60 and includes a golf cart, green fee, lunch and refreshments.
