EPD: Sunday shooting under investigation

The Elizabethton Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place on Sunday, Aug. 26, on 220 West I Street in Elizabethton.

According to information by Police Chief Jason Shaw, officers received a call around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning on the report of a shooting. Once officers arrived, Shaw indicated that officers found one male that had been shot. The subject that was shot was taken to the hospital by Carter County EMS with life threatening injuries and later died at the hospital that day. No identification on the deceased was provided.

EPD officials stated that the suspected shooter was found on scene and has been identified. No charges have been pressed as of Sunday afternoon.

EPD Captain Shane Darling said that the facts of the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office and that further information on the incident will be provided in the coming days. EPD is serving as the lead agency on the investigation and is receiving assistance from TBI and the DA’s Office.
