Teen shot by task force officer arrested on assault charges

MEMPHIS (AP) — A teenager who was shot and wounded by a U.S. Marshals Task Force officer was arrested and charged with assault after he was released from a hospital, officials said.
The teen was shot Tuesday when officers from the task force found him driving a vehicle that matched the description of one believed to be connected to a fugitive murder suspect, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.
The 17-year-old, who was not the fugitive and whose name was not released, was arrested Wednesday, the TBI said.
Officers tried to surround the vehicle with theirs, and the driver reportedly tried to flee by backing up and ramming nearby vehicles several times, the TBI said. Agents learned the vehicle had been reported stolen Monday.
The teen was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, theft and vandalism. It was not clear whether he was represented by a lawyer.
