Stiff competition… Cyclone boys finish second, girls third in four-team match at EGC

With prep golf season winding down toward tournament time, the competition is beginning to get stiffer as evidenced by a four-team match played at Elizabethton Golf Course on Monday between the host Elizabethton Cyclones, Dobyns-Bennett, Volunteer, and Sullivan South.
 
After all four teams checked in after their nine-hole round, the Elizabethton boys claimed a second-place finish behind Dobyns-Bennett while the Cyclone girls finished third behind Sullivan South and Dobyns-Bennett.
 
In boys’ action, the Indians Zac Fletcher (37) and William Karst (39) led their team to the top spot with a 156 – 11 strokes better than the Cyclones who finished their round with a 167.
 
Three Cyclone linksters finished their day with identical 41’s as Carson Peters, Caleb Tipton, and Cooper Tipton matched each other stroke for stroke. 
 
Padraig Murphy and Kerry Williams each carded a 44 with Murphy’s 44 figuring into the four-man team score.
 
Jacob Williams (42) and Brayden Phillips (49) rounded out the Cyclones day for the boys’.
 
Volunteer finished in third place with a 179 led by the day’s low medalist, Jon Wes Lovelace, who had a nine-hole total of 35. 
 
Sullivan South rounded out the four-team match in fourth place 209 finish paced by Grayson Manis who ended the day with a 46 for the Rebels.
 
On the girls’ side of action, South’s two-team tandem of Kara Carter (40) and Kirstyn Moore (43) were 11 strokes better than the Lady Indians Erin Colhaun (46) and Natalie Seal (48) as South took the four-team match.
 
The Lady Cyclones, meanwhile, shot a two-team total of 103 as Katelyn Kechter (50) and Hannah McDonnell (53) accounted for Elizabethton’s nine-round total.
 
Kylee Evans finished with a 53 as well followed by Gabby Miller’s 54. Ashylnn Guy (60) and Katelyn Lee (61) closed out the day for the Lady Cyclones.
The Lady Falcons rounded out the four-team match by finishing with a 107 led by Hannah Stewart (48) and Julie Mowell (59).
