HAMPTON – The Hampton JV Bulldogs were howling and throwing an early fit before finally breaking every link in their chains and running away from the visiting Happy Valley JV Warriors at JC Campbell Stadium in Hampton on an absolutely gorgeous evening for football of any kind Monday evening.
It took only one touch of the pigskin for the ‘Dogs to jump out front as Jonathan Greenwell fielded a ball around his own 35-yard line, broke toward the Happy Valley sideline and then outrun the Warrior kickoff team 65 yards for and early 6-0 Hampton advantage.
The two-point conversion failed and the ‘Dogs settled for the 6-0 lead.
Hampton’s defense was stellar keeping the football in the Bulldogs offense’s hands for most of the contest as Hampton added a second score before the first quarter expired.
Freshman quarterback Dylan Trivett pulled out the six-shooter as he found Greenwell once again and Greenwell did the rest outracing the Warrior defense on a 59-yard touchdown reception with 1:06 left in the opening quarter.
Trivett completed the two-point conversion and Hampton was out front early, 14-0.
The Bulldogs continued to build on their lead in the second as Trivett once again had a hand in a ‘Dog score finding Chance Point on a 29-yard scoring toss and after Levi Lunsford took care of the two-point conversion, Hampton was cruising 22-0.
Three minutes later, it was Hampton once again finding pay dirt as the Trivett to Point connection worked once again covering 38 yards with 2:36 remaining in the half.
Point pushed across the two-point conversion and the scoreboard read 30-0 at the intermission.
After a relatively quiet third quarter, Lunsford put the cherry on top of the sundae as he bulled in from two yards out with Trivett adding the two-point conversion for the final margin of victory in the game for Hampton.
