Johnny Pierce, 84, of Elizabethton, danced into heaven Tuesday morning, December 1, 2020, following a brief battle with cancer. Johnny was able to leave this earth from his home, lying in the arms of his “soul mate,” Mildred Pierce, of 48 beautiful years.
John proudly served his country in the Air Force and retired from the Carter County Housing Authority, where he assisted many of the local residents with their housing maintenance needs.
Johnny was preceded in death by his mother and father, and two sisters, Christine and Charlotte.
Left here on earth to cherish his memories are his wife, Mildred Pierce; son, Keith Oliver; grandson, Ryan Oliver; one sister, Ruthie Mitchell; and two brothers, Tony Taylor and Charles “Stoney” Pierce. Also surviving Johnny are five children, Johnny Pierce Jr., Wannette Pierce, Theresa Pierce-Apo, Tony Pierce and Jimmy Pierce; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren (many of whom live in the state of Washington); many nieces and nephews (too numerous to mention by name) and numerous close, longtime friends.
A huge thank you goes out to the friends and family who have supported Millie in the hard days preceding John’s death with health care, support, food, phone calls, and in every other way. I wish we could name you all, but in fear of missing someone we will just say THANK YOU to everyone. The family does wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to a very special, longtime friend. This friend has requested no special recognition, but the family wants to say THANK YOU.
A special Thank You to the staff of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton for their kind and compassionate assistance while taking care of John’s cremation.
A very special thank you to Debbie and Deb’s special care team for their around the clock, angelic care. We, the family and friends, believe you two were truly heaven sent! The Hospice Team from Ballad Hospice has been so compassionate and caring and provided the best care possible — thank you very much!
If you had the pleasure of knowing Johnny and Millie, you know that they loved to dance together. Everywhere they danced, people would watch and envy their obvious love. Other dancers would clear the dance floor, just to watch and applaud. The love in their relationship was just that evident.
We will all miss Johnny terribly. Please continue to support Millie and her family as they deal with the difficult days head. Always remember the beautiful life they had together and their “True Fairy Tale Story.”
A visitation and memorial service will be held Monday, December 8, at the Southside Christian Church. The visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and the service will begin at 7 p.m. to remember Johnny’s life with music, laughter, and especially love. The church is located at 6010 Southside Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. Please protect yourself and others by wearing a mask at the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Johnny to Southside Christian Church.
