Bulldogs fall to host Maryville in Christmas tourney

The Hampton Bulldogs opened up the 2020 Maryville Christmas Tournament taking on host Maryville on Monday looking to get back to business after the Christmas holiday.

Hampton gave Maryville all they wanted and more before dropping the contest by a 73-62 margin. The ‘Dogs were back in action on Tuesday against William Blount.

The first 16 minutes were hotly contested by both teams as Maryville found a way to build a 38-30 advantage at intermission as junior Terrence Dorsey recorded 13 points in the half for Maryville including three treys.

As a team, Maryville tallied six threes in the first half of play.

Josh Seiler contributed eight points in helping the Rebels build their lead.

Hampton, meanwhile, got 14 points from Morgan Lyons to keep the Bulldogs within shooting distance of the Rebels. Parker Henry added four in the half while three points each were registered by Michael Harrison and Isaiah McCoury.

The second half was just as entertaining as the first as both teams were going at it trying to pull out the win before Maryville was able to extend their lead to take the 11-point victory.

Maryville outscored Hampton 35-32 in the second half of play.

Lyons finished the contest with a game-high 30 points in the ‘Dogs loss. Garrett Vines and Conor Jones logged five points each as well.

The Rebels were led by 19 points from Dorsey with senior Jack Brown totaling 14 points. Maryville also received double-figure scoring from Seiler and Charlie Rice.
