Blue Mountanya Resort progressing towards potential spring opening

The Blue Mountanya Resort in Butler is still chugging forward, their developers said, and they are potentially set to formally open to the public by late March.

Director of Corporate Communications Anastasia Joucken said the resort has been a long time coming.

“We started construction prior to the Christmas Extravaganza,” Joucken said.

After some delays due to environmental permits and other issues, she said she wanted the community to know they are still on track, and many different venues are scheduled to appear at the new resort.

For starters, the venue barn halted construction briefly for their Christmas event, and then promptly resumed. The barn’s grand opening, currently set around mid to late March, will mark the day when the resort will be open to the general public to host events there.

“What is great about this is it does not just provide positive benefits for Carter County, but to the whole region,” Joucken said. “This will bring a lot of tourism.”

Upcoming attractions the resort is working towards, she said, include a “Shades of Blue” boutique, a pizza shop, a coffee bistro and possibly a sight-seeing location.

There was concern from the public a few months ago as word spread about issues securing environmental permits for construction, but she said they have worked through those issues just fine.

“We are still happening,” Joucken said. “Things sometimes take time as you work through the red tape.”

As the resort’s plans have unveiled since the resort’s announcement last fall, Joucken said it has been incredible seeing the community’s support for the resort, especially during their holiday festival in December.

“It was exciting to see people excited,” she said. “It was great to see the public come out.”

She said the resort carries a lot of people’s aspirations, including her own.

“We are fully involved in this,” she said. “My entire family does live here.”

In the meantime, she said specific opening dates for any of the attractions are still pending, as there is still a lot of work to be done in the planning and development phases.

However, as the resort progresses, she said the economic potential will be significant.

“It will help every business next to us,” Joucken said. “We expect to employ over 200 employees.”
