Lady Cyclones

The Lady Cyclones showed off to the homecoming crowd Friday night as they recorded a 68-31 win over the Daniel Boone Lady Trailblazers inside John Treadway Gym.

The most notable performance of the night came from post Megan Pietrowski, who provided 15 during the night despite having quite the height disadvantage. Her unfamiliar opponent came in Lady Trailblazers’ center Sydney Pearce, who towers up in the six foot area.

“I just took my time and did not rush myself,” Pietrowski said. “I had a lot of good feeds from teammates, which always helps a lot.”

The Lady Cyclones Kayla Marosites recorded 16 points as she led the her team in scoring. She was backed up by her sister Kelci Marosites, who recorded 15.

The Lady Cyclones got off to a fast start, ending the quarter with a six-point run to push their lead to 13-5.

The gap widened in the second, with the Lady Cyclones pushing on out with a eight-point drive. At the end of two quarters, the Lady Cyclones were up 33-12.

In the third things got terminal as ’Betsy was able to expand their grip to a 28-point lead over the Lady ‘Blazers, closing the period up 54-26.

The thrashing continued in the fourth as ‘Betsy closed out the contest on a 12-4 run.

“Tonight I thought the energy and intensity defensively was tremendous,”Elizabethton coach Len Dugger said. “We sustained that for the most part throughout the game. That has became a part of our trademark.”

Before the kick off of the boys game, the Lady Cyclones were presented with state championship rings they earned last year after bringing home the AA state title.

The Elizabethton Boys put on a three-point shooting  clinic inside John Treadyway Gym Homecoming night.

By the end of the game, the Cyclones had posted 14 triples, with Austin Cornett leading the way with  six threes and 20 points. Tyler Nichols netted 19 points in the win.

“The guys were feeding me the ball at the right times,” Cornett said.

The game started out with a bang as the Cyclones popped five threes in a row to push out to a 16-7 lead at the end of the frame. Cornett recorded three of the five first-quarter triples.

The second period was opened up with a six-point drive by the Cyclones to push on out 23-7. Before going into the half, Daniel Boone had pushed themselves within 11 points with the Cyclones up 33-22

In the third frame, the Cylcones busted four more threes as they ended the period up 52-41.

Two triples from Alex Jones and Cornett would give the Cyclones a 60-47 lead in the fourth. With five consecutive points from Nichols, ’Betsy drove on out to 64-49. Cyclones’ Teve Mushaymamunda busted a bucket and three to close out the game with Cyclones up 70-53.

“We shot it really well,” Cyclones coach Lucas Honeycutt said. “We kind of fed off that all night. Our press got us a few turnovers, bothered them a little bit. They are a really improved team from the first of the year. We played them at the first of the year and we had a pretty good win margin over them. They did some things that we struggle with defensively. The kids worked on it. We made some adjustments and it ended up working out for us in the end.”
