County school board to have three newcomers

Three new members will be joining the ranks of the Carter County Board of Education.
Seats on the Board representing the Second, Third, Fifth and Seventh Districts were up for grabs in Thursday’s election.
Ladonna Boone pulled off an upset to capture the Second District seat with 49.7 percent of the votes, defeating incumbent Donald Julian and challenger Lee Benfield. Julian came in third in that race, garnering only 19.91 percent of the votes. Benfield received 30.49 percent of the votes.
Incumbent David Buck will be returning to the Third District seat following an unopposed race. Newcomers Tony Garland and Steven Hyder, who will represent the Fifth and Seventh Districts respectively, will also join the board following unopposed races.
