A strong thunderstorm that moved through Elizabethton on Wednesday afternoon damaged trees, broke utility poles and knocked down power lines on the western end of the city.
Portions of the west end were without power and some roads were closed off due to fallen trees and power lines.
Crews with the Elizabethton Electric Department worked into the night attempting to replace broken poles and restore power.
