“I thought we got our hands on the ball a lot,” Hampton head Ned Smith said. “. . . We had four guys in double figures. I though our guys shared the ball really well.”

Senior Coby Jones made his way back on to the court tonight after mending an injury that occurred at the end of the football season. Jones was welcomed back onto the hardwood by cheers from the Hampton crowd.

“It just shows you what the fans are like here in Hampton,” Jones, who posted eight points Friday, said. “When they respect someone they go crazy for them. You know, it is not just for me. It is for each one of these boys. That is just the type of fans we have here.”

In the third frame, Hampton steam rolled North Greene, out scoring the Huskies 26-13. The Bulldogs popped four treys, with Jones, Adam McClain, Holtsclaw and Butler all raining in a 3-pointer to help Hampton head into the fourth frame up 53-30.

With the win the Bulldogs move their conference record to 2-1.

Tuesday, the Bulldogs will host South Greene.

In a conference game that stayed tight throughout, the Lady Huskies were able to sneak past Hampton with a 39-34 win.

Leading the North Greene charge was Kristen Payne, who posted 16 points, 12 of which came from 3-pointers.

“She is our shooter,” Lady Huskies coach James Buchanan said about Payne. “We always try to get her in a place where she can knock them down, and our other kids do a good job of finding her.”

Hampton’s Shyanne Tuelle didn’t let the Lady Huskies take the game without a fight as she led the game in scoring with 19 points.

“Shyanne is such a good athlete she can be hard to control at times,” Hampton coach Bud Hazelwood said.

In the first quarter, Tuelle got things started with a 3-pointer, which was answered by North Greene’s Katelyn Weems who knocked down her own three to even things back out with 5:44 left in the first. The Lady Huskies picked up four unanswered points before North Greene’s Kristen Payne nailed a three to put her team up 10-5. However, the Lady ’Dogs posted nine-straight points to finish the first frame up 14-10. Tuelle came unleashed in the first quarter as she scored nine of Hampton’s points, while blocking two 3-point attempts by the Lady Huskies.

The second frame was a low scoring affair with the Lady Huskies out scoring Hampton 8-2. Weems and Kristen Payne hit back-to-back threes to give North Greene (15-6, 3-2) a 18-16 lead heading into the half.

In third quarter, the Lady Huskies out scored Hampton 12-9 to head into the final frame with a 30-25 lead. And with both teams scoring nine points each in the last quarter, the five-point margin was to much for the Lady Bulldogs (10-7, 1-2) to over come.
