Police investigating body found by fishermen near Watauga River

Police and members of the Carter County Rescue Squad are on scene near the Watauga River where two fishermen discovered a body earlier this morning.

A little before 8 a.m. this morning two fishermen found a body near the Watauga River along the intersection of Highway 67 and Highway 91 in Elizabethton, according to Elizabethton Police Department Capt. Jason Shaw.
Both the EPD and Carter County Sheriffs Office are investigating the discovery. The medical examiner’s office and the coroner were also both called to the scene. Members of the Carter County Rescue Squad’s Technical Rescue Team is assisting in the removal of the body.
Shaw said that neither the EPD or the Sheriffs Department have any reports of missing persons.
