On Tuesday evening the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones unleashed a barrage of 15 shots at Unicoi County’s goal, scoring on 11 of those shots in an 11-nil whitewash of the Lady Blue Devils at Citizen’s Bank Stadium.

EHS (2-0-1) playing as many as nine freshmen – who were good for seven of the teams total goals – had the look of a team that can compete at a high level.

“We did the same thing last game against Crockett and we won 10-0 goals against them,” Lady Cyclones head coach Bill McClay said. “Eight of the goals against them were scored by freshmen, something similar to tonight. I had a couple of sophomores score and a pair of seniors as well. It was spread out pretty well. I just want them to be a little more disciplined with D-B coming inon Thursday.”

Freshman Kaylen Shell got the first two goals in the first minute and she scored again in the 11th minute as EHS took a quick two goal lead. Fellow freshmen Lexie Brown got two with assists going to Shell and senior Haley Burleson and Cami Davison scored in between Brown’s two goals with an assist from Brown.

All told those goals made it a 5-0 contest for the Cyclones and before the half ended sophomore DeAnndra Bordies got a goal on a shot from a tough angle that was struck hard enough to rebound in after Blue Devils goalkeeper Alexandra Reynoso seemed to have made the stop.

In all the Cyclones fired 10 shots at Reynoso in the first half and head coach Bettina Chirica decided to sub out her beleaguered keeper. EHS did likewise with freshman Reagan Armstrong playing the second half in goal.

The second half saw seniors Caitlyn Gardner and Burleson score in the 47th and 50th minutes respectively. Freshman Maggie Johnson scored on a pair of defensive mistakes as the Devils back line failed to clear the ball adequately away and Johnson quickly pounced on the errors.

On the first goal she put in a rebound of a shot that struck the crossbar and bounced into the penalty area where Johnson fired past Alexis Silvers in the Unicoi County goal. The second came when UC simply failed to clear the ball out of the penalty area and Johnson scored easily.

The final tally came on a short breakaway from sophomore Cassidy Kaldy who scored off a rebound of a teammates shot.
