J.B. Hardin, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Erwin, Tenn., he was a son of the late Clyde and Maude Brackens Hardin. He had lived a number of years in Elizabethton.
Mr. Hardin served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired truck driver with American Water Heater. He attended East River Park Christian Church. His hobbies were working on old cars and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Smith Hardin, who died Aug. 4, 2000.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Shirll Jay and Jennifer Hardin, Elizabethton; a stepgrandson, Jordan Simerly; two sisters, Betty Bennett, Erwin, and Lois Peterson, Baltimore, Md.; and three brothers, Fred and Glen Hardin, both of Erwin, and Warren Hardin, Flag Pond. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Mr. Hardin will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Barry Pettit, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, will be Gary Bennett, David Bennett, Fred Hardin, Chris Click, Donovan Sturgill and Craig Ingram. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Judy Deloach and the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his son. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Hardin family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
