Fred M. Wandell, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Hillview Health Center, following an extended illness.
Mr. Wandell was born in Wyoming, a son of the late John Wesley Wandell and Amy Devenberg Wandell Wagner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Angel Wandell; a brother, Wesley Wandell; and a sister, LaVonn Slagle.
Mr. Wandell retired from Great Lakes Research Corporation and was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton. He was a past State President of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Tennessee and was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Ken Wandell and wife Sheila, Elizabethton, and Steve Wandell, Knoxville; five grandchildren, Dr. Josh Wandell and wife Tabitha, Neal Wandell and wife Samantha, Elizabeth Wandell, Emily Wandell and Justin Wandell; five great-grandchildren, Jayla Wandell, Drake Lytton, Deanndra Bordies, Taylor Long and J.T. Long; and one sister, Shirley Gentry, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Wandell will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Donald Mushayamunda, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Adam Walton, Derrick Nave, Nathan Hardin, Kelly Geagley, T.J. Brown and Gary Blevins.
