Dorothy Mae (Peoples) Markland

Dorothy Mae (Peoples) Markland passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, with her loving daughter, Carola, and son-in-law, Gary Walker, by her side, in Newark, Ohio.
Dottie (as she loved to be called) was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carroll B. Markland. Her parents, Lon and Mae Peoples, as well as her sisters, Betty Smith, Ann Moody and Patsy Smith, and one brother Jimmy Peoples, preceded her in death.
Dottie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters and sons-in-law, Carola and Gary Walker and Cathy and Edwin McKeehan; her precious grandchildren, Marc and Brett (Jodie) Logazino, Melissa McKeehan and Alicia Scott (Michael); and six great-grandchildren, Araya, Gavin, Lauren, Wyatt, Jackson and Brennan. She also leaves to mourn her passing a special sister-in-law, Kathryn (Markland) Lovegrove, and brother-in-law, James D. Smith. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Dottie was born in Blowing Rock, N.C., and spent her life in Elizabethton until she married her husband and became a devoted Navy wife. She spent most of her married life residing in Florida, three years in Georgia, and lastly, six years in Elizabethton, completing the circle of her life.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Amedisys Home Health Care in Elizabethton, Signature Home Health Care and Acclaim Hospice, both of Newark, Ohio, for all their care, love and support during her illness.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 25. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. The service will follow with Rev. Dwight Basham officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Friends may also visit with the family at the Markland home.
