On Thursday, May 1, 2014, Jackie L. Love, age 72, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed from the arms of his family and friends into the arms of his heavenly Father at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Cora Chambers Love. He leaves behind to honor and cherish his memory his family, Joel and Denise Norris, Russell and Kathie Love, Charlie and Wanda Chambers, Mary Love, Richard Love, other cousins also survive; his dear friends, fishing buddy Steve Burrough, Steve Burrough Jr., Jim Burrough, Ray and Charlotte Markland, RayDon and Suzette’ Markland, and Chris Timmons.
He graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964. Jack served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in 1966. Upon his return he worked at North American Rayon, then was employed as a surveyor for the State of Tennessee until his retirement.
Jack was a faithful Christian servant and member of Borderview Christian Church. From giving out his favorite peppermints and butterscotch from his seat on the back pew to providing fireworks for the annual God & Country Day to delivering Easter hams to family and friends, Jack will be remembered for his kindness and generosity by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to thank ministers Ken Overdorff, Kirk Langston, and Scott Fisher for generously giving of their time to care for and visit with Jack and his family. The family also wishes to express our gratitude to the TAVR, ICU and Palliative Care teams at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dr. Connie Holladay and the Palliative Care and Hospice team at Mountain Home VA Community Living Center for expertly and compassionately caring for Jack.
Services for Jack Love will be conducted in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Ken Overdorff, minister officiating, Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, Ray Don Markland and Joel Norris. Active pallbearers, who are requested to meet at the funeral home at 2:20 p.m., are: Russell Love, Joel Norris, RayDon Markland, Chris Timmons, Steve Burrough, Steve Burrough Jr., Jim Burrough, Charlie Chambers and Raymond Morton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mens Sunday School Class and his church family of Borderview Christian Church, George Ritchie, Ken Calloway and Lynn Holdren. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard.
