Mr. Michael Hughes, age 46, of Watauga, Tenn., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his residence. A native of Johnson City, Tenn., he was the son of Imogene Holder Hughes, of Watauga and the late Charles Lowell Hughes. Mr. Hughes was Director of the Watauga River Regional Authority. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in environmental health. Michael loved to read books, enjoyed camping, fishing and outdoor activities.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother, Chris Hughes, Johnson City; a niece, Morgan K. Hughes, Johnson City; and two favorite aunts, Gladys Holder and Nancy Alsup, both of Elizabethton.
The graveside service for Mr. Michael Hughes will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Richards officiating. Those attending the graveside service are requested to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. on Thursday. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
