Violet “Coosie” Peters Barnett

Violet “Coosie” Peters Barnett, age 68, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, in Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Barnett was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Webster and Dessie Garland Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters: Francis Richardson, Rada Williams, Willie Mae Snodgrass, Betty Lou Pierce, Billie Jean Arnold and Carolyn Hyder; and one brother, Conley “C.H.” Peters. Mrs. Barnett was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and prior to her illness, she was active in the Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed line dancing and camping.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Stanley Barnett, of the home; one daughter, Diana Barnett, of the home; one son, Terry Lee Barnett and wife Dawn, Charlotte, N.C.; and one sister, Georgia Harris, Hickory, N.C.. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Barnett will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Dale Ward and Pastor Bill Greer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Richard Williams, soloist. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, to go in procession.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Elizabethton Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 134, Elizabethton, TN 37644 or to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeast, 207 N. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37601.
