Hubert C. Lewis, 69, 152 Green Valley Lane, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Mr. Lewis was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Melvin Lewis Sr. and Goldia Carden Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Oliver Lewis, on September 24, 1992, and a brother, Melvin “Red” Lewis Jr.
Mr. Lewis was the owner and operator of H.C. Lewis Construction, Inc. for 43 years. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F&AM and a member of the Elizabethton Moose Lodge. He was a United States Army Veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Angie Clark and husband Kevin, and Donna Gail Williams and husband Perry, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Annetta Hall and husband Harold, Elizabethton; two brothers, Ted Lewis and Gary Lewis, both of Elizabethton; his special, beloved grandchildren, Whitney Clark, Devin Clark, Autumn Williams and Kerry Williams, all of Elizabethton; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Harris, Elizabethton; his special companion of six years, Jonnie Lewis Wilson; his best friends, Yvette Bailey and Bill Grindstaff; and all his special friends at Volunteer Market. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family also survive.
The graveside service for Mr. Lewis will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Devin Clark, Perry Williams, Kevin Clark, Bill Grindstaff, Ed Campbell, David Pugh, Ronnie Carden, Lester Bailey Jr., Chris Schuettler and Duncan Street. Honorary pallbearers will be James Carroll, Elwayne Williams, Freeman Taylor, Hess Patel, Jim Holmes, Dean Parlier, David Harris and Randy Brett. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession. Family and friends may visit at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at their convenience, or at the residence at anytime.
