Ida G. Taylor

Ida Garland Taylor, 83, of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late M.D. and Vada Garland and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Coy Taylor Jr.; three sisters, Mae Garland, Hattie Estep and Mamie Celia; three brothers, Luther Garland, Frank Garland and Charlie Garland; five half brothers, Henry Garland, Archie Garland, Roby Garland, Raleigh Garland and Vaught Garland; her former husband, Coy Taylor Sr.; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School. She worked at Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospital for 20 years in the Dietary Department and she was also a member of the Sycamore Shoals Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and Senior Friends.
Survivors include three sons, Stewart Taylor and wife, Teresa, Dawsonville, Ga., Hensel Taylor, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Austin “Bo” Taylor and wife, Jana, Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren, Derik Taylor and wife, Amy, Suwanee, Ga., Brad Taylor and wife, Beth, Cumming, Ga., Brandi Taylor, Johnson City, Tenn., Alec Taylor, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sean Taylor, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Austin Taylor, Birmingham, Ala.; five great-grandchildren, Davis Taylor, Abby Taylor, Blake Taylor, Andie Taylor and Taylor Newton; a sister, Laura Watson, Atlanta, Ga.; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Tipton Taylor, Hampton, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Edwin Taylor, organist, and Laura Watson and Ardith Sheffield, soloists. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Derik Taylor, Brad Taylor, Alec Taylor, Sean Taylor and Austin Taylor, and nephew, Norman Estep. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Garland, Dave Honeycutt, Lanny White, Randy Forbes, Dr. Jonathan Bremer and all the men of First Free Will Baptist Church.
