HAMPTON — Colton Timothy Del Oakes was born in Johnson City, Tenn., to Kathy Guy and Del Oakes. Colton went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the age of 19. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rodney Oakes, and his grandmother, Katie Guy-Goodman.
Colton was a beloved son, brother and friend. He was a talented athlete and avid lover of soccer and golf. He also enjoyed wake boarding, snowboarding, hiking and biking. He was very determined and task driven, and wouldn’t back down from any challenge. In the season golf tournament at The Virginian, he achieved second place and had participated in golf state championships, two years consecutively. He spent much of his childhood at the lake with his late grandfather, Rodney Oakes, and his father, Del Oaks, and much of his teen years golfing with his cherished friends. He was blessed to have many adventures with his family. Colton was naturally talented at everything he tried and could capture an audience with his good looks, his beautiful smile and his mischievous wit. He was a joy to be around and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his mother and father, Kathy Guy and Del Oakes, of the home; his sister, Mandi Oakes Millican, Lafayette, Ga.; his maternal grandfather, Creed Guy, Jonesborough; maternal grandparent, Larry Goodman, Jonesborough; paternal grandparents, Billie Oakes Watkins, Hampton, and Anne Oakes, Johnson City; maternal great-grandparent, Dorothy Goodwin, Hampton; aunts, Sherry Stout, Tonya Babik and Rachel Oakes. Colton also leaves behind a host of friends, left to cherish his memory.
