Roy V. Burchett

Roy V. Burchett, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Roy was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Vurner Ray and Beulah Dugger Burchett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nella Grindstaff, and two brothers, Herman and Ricky Burchett.
Mr. Burchett was a retired salesman of modular homes and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. He had an accounting degree and a drafting degree from Elizabethton Business College and a Business Management Degree from East Tennessee State University. He sang with the Burchett family and loved to play music, garden, and his little dog “Levi.”
Mr. Burchett was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sharon Barnett Burchett, of the home; two daughters, Christa White, Johnson City, and Angela Phillips, Elizabethton; two sons, Ray Burchett, Bluff City, and Roy Darren Burchett, Elizabethton; four sisters, Faye Campbell, Johnson City, Dora Trivette and Betty Dugger, both of Butler, and Teresa Chambers, Elizabethton; two brothers, Earl Burchett, Butler, and Dean Burchett, Hampton; and his grandchildren, Katie Sims, Zach White, Danielle Phillips, Christa Britt, Amanda Burchett, Nathan Thomas, Patrick Phillips and Daniel Burchett. Several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Burchett will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Gary W. Ward, Rev. Keith Weatherly and Rev. Reece Harris officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Burchett family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the Elk Mills Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Zach White, Brian Dugger, Earl Burchett, Dean Burchett, Ricky Burchett and Kevin Burchett. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Godsey, Mack Markland, Kelvin Moffett, Brandon Arney, Brannon Bitt, Ward Hilman, Chase Moffett, Richie Phillips, Leslie Carpenter, Ronnie Carpenter and Phil White. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Elk Mills Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday.
