John Frank Turner

John Frank Turner, 74, of Jonesborough, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Bristol Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Edward and Hazel Pierce Turner Rasnick and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special granddaughter, Rachel Scalf; his step-father, William Rasnick Sr.; his grandparents, John and Lena Turner and Daniel and Alice Pierce; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Dallas Odom; a sister-in-law, Janie Rasnick; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Turner was a member of West Hills Baptist Church in Jonesborough and was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the American Legion. He was a retired foreman from the furniture manufacturing business where he worked for several companies in North Carolina. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Mr. Turner is survived by a special grandson, “Grand Pa’s boy,” Charlie Turner, of the home; his wife of 52 years, Mona Morrell Turner, of the home; a daughter, Monica Scalf, of the home; a son, Johnny Norton and his wife, Alesha, Hickory, N.C.; his other grandchildren, John Paul Scalf and his wife, Jamie, Jason Scalf and his wife, Dacia, John Jr. Norton, and Joy Truman and her husband, Corey; great-grandchildren, Jake Smelcer, Jason Wayne Scalf II, Ayden Scalf, Harlee Truman, Aylea Norton, Jasmine Scalf, Sage Scalf and Patsyann Scalf; a sister, Elizabeth Miller, Elizabethton; brothers, Wayne Rasnick, Ronnie Rasnick, William Rasnick Jr., Bobby Ray Rasnick and David Rasnick, all of Elizabethton; a special aunt, Mable Turner, Elizabethton; an aunt and uncle, Jack “Bud” and Lena Belle Collins, Elizabethton; and his special puppies, Missy and Pug. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Turner will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Ernie Depew, minister, and Pastor Terry Proffitt officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the home at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
