Helen Hyder Wilfinger

Helen Hyder Wilfinger, 87, of Eureka, Ill., died at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka, Ill.
Helen was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Ivar M. “Blue” and Ethyl H. “Tom” (Buck) Hyder on December 29, 1926. She married Frank S. Wilfinger in Elizabethton on December 18, 1945.
She was preceded in death by Frank in 2007, her parents, and her sister, Lela Ruth Ritchie.
Surviving are her sons, Phillip E. (Pam) Wilfinger, Deer Creek, Ill., and Vernon K. (Bonnie) Wilfinger, East Peoria, Ill.; four grandchildren, Shea Osborne, Heather Crawford, Keith Wilfinger and Kyle Wilfinger; and one great-grandchild, Colten Osborne.
Helen was a member of Eureka Christian Church, the AARP, and the American Legion Auxiliary. While in Elizabethton she attended West Side Christian Church. In past years, Helen enjoyed traveling with Frank, square dancing, playing the organ and piano. She was also a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball team.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 6, from 10 until 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 212 N. Main Street, Elizabethton, Tenn. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton with Mr. Greg Key, minister, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association , 207 N. Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
