Vada E. Blevins, 74, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Blevins was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Lem and Myrtle Humphrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Blevins, in 1995.
Mrs. Blevins retired as the owner of Hook’s Restaurant in Elizabethton and was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. She loved her family.
Survivors include her son, Duane Blevins and wife Karen, Johnson City; three sisters, Grace Morrison and husband Howard, Bluff City, Bessie Scott, Watauga, and Letha Dial, Elizabethton; a brother, Leo Humphrey and wife Gladys, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, JR Blevins, of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Blevins will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Paul Peer, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Hess, Rick Humphrey, Bob Schaff, Lynn Humphrey, Dale McCracken and Jerry Deakins. Honorary pallbearers will be Lowell Garrison, Doug “Bubba” Tolley, Bret Jones and friends and members of New Hope Church of Christ. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession.
