Bailey Stevens

Bailey Stevens, 86, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Jake and Cecila Morton Stevens.
Mr. Stevens served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired truck driver with Summers-Taylor. He attended Harmony Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three step-sons, James Morton, Earnest Morton and Charles Morton; a sister, Blanche Glover; and a brother, Rev. Basil Stevens.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Lyons Stevens; a daughter, Kathy Stevens, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Stevens, Elizabethton; five step-daughters, Edna Speagle, Vale, N.C., Janice Ingles, Vale, N.C., Sue Morton, Elizabethton, Lora Ann Elliott, Buladean, N.C., and Anita Feathers, Greeneville, Tenn.; two brothers, Benny Stevens and Bob Stevens, both of Hampton; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jerry Miller.
Funeral services for Mr. Stevens will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Feathers officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Bobby McGee. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hillview Health Center and the staff of C Ward and the Purple Team of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:10 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
