Raymond Blevins, 87, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his home following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Wilford and Gertrude Humphreys Blevins and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron and Bob Blevins.
Mr. Blevins was active in the Senior Dance Club at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. He attended Riverside Community Church.
Mr. Blevins was retired from the Watauga Rock Quarry.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Shirley Rankin Borders Blevins, of the home; three daughters, Betty Proffitt, Johnson City, Gail White and her husband, Gordon, Gallatin, Tenn., and Carmen Timbs and her husband, Eddie, Elizabethton; three sons, David Blevins and his wife, Sheila, Maryville, Tenn., Kenneth Blevins and his wife, Cynthia, Vale, N.C., and Richard Blevins, Elizabethton; two step-sons, Michael Borders and Danny Borders, Elizabethton; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel McGuire, Silver Springs, Md., and Willie Scalf, Watauga; a brother, Luther Blevins and his wife, Sharon, Piney Flats; and a sister-in-law, Lola Cox, Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service for Mr. Blevins will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in the Scalf Cemetery with Rev. Benny Johnson officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, prior to the graveside service.
