Earl “Jack” Carter

Earl “Jack” Carter, age 88, of Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 11, 2014, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Carter was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Abner and Celia Chambers Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elma Carter; and four brothers, Cloyd, Clyde “Spark”, Fred and Pete Carter.
Mr. Carter retired from Raytheon, after 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Barry Taylor, of Elizabethton; a grandson, Jack Buckles and wife Jodi, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Jamie Garfield and husband Jared, Cumming, Ga.; great grandchildren, Madisyn Umphrey, Brayden Buckles, Jackson Buckles, and Carson Buckles, all of Elizabethton, Alexis Garfield and Camdon Garfield, both of Cumming, Ga.; and his former wife, Betty Pritchard and husband Landon, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Earl “Jack” Carter was conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with the Rev. Walker Roberson and the Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday.
The graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014, in the Emmert Cemetery in Elizabethton. Military honors were accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers were Sam Bradshaw, Richard “Jarfly” Dugger, Allen Goodwin, Lynn Greenwell, Bill Greene, Doug Carter and Harry Ford. Honorary pallbearers were Landon Pritchard, Jack Miller, Carmen Dugger, Melvin “Shag” Cole, Alburn Peters, Harold Stout, Frank Taylor, Bill Wilkins, Buster Arnold, fellow employees of Raytheon and his former fellow baseball players.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of the Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center for the love and care shown to Mr. Carter and his family, during his illness.
