Betty Ann Hughes, 56, of Duffield, Va., formerly of the Carter County area of Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, Va., following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of Vella Arnold Ward of Johnson City and was born in Washington County, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Neff.
Ms. Hughes attended South Side Freewill Baptist Church and loved working with and being around elderly people.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her step-father, John Ward, Johnson City; a daughter, Bridget Neff, and her friend, Gordon Whitehead, Johnson City; and two special aunts, Hattie Richardson, and her husband, Paul, Butler, Tenn., and Geneva Eldreth, Mountain City, Tenn.
The funeral service for Ms. Hughes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Steve Burleson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tammie Cole and Lisa Morgan. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, and at the home of her mother and step-father at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
