GREENEVILLE—Coming into the Region 1-A/AA golf tournament at Link Hills Country Club a little bit under the radar, Jamie Hinkle, by the end of the day, had secured a trip to Manchester next week.

The Elizabethton High School senior did a complete turnaround from last week’s districts by shooting an 81 to finish third in the event. She will compete in the TSSAA Class A/AA state tournament.

Hinkle struggled last week in the district at her home course at Elizabethton, shooting 89. This week going to a course that is probably much more difficult and over an hour away from home, she was not considered one of the favorites to reach the state.
