ETSU announces Graduate Academic Fresh Start

Many graduate students become overwhelmed by financial, health or personal problems and are unable to complete their degree requirements.
To address these difficulties, East Tennessee State University’s School of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Council have instituted a new policy, Graduate Academic Fresh Start, designed to consider such prior ETSU graduate students for readmission without regard to an existing grade point average.
Students who were previously enrolled at ETSU as doctoral, master’s, graduate certificate or non-degree seeking graduate students but have not been enrolled at ETSU for at least two academic years can petition for admission or readmission.
Participants in Graduate Academic Fresh Start may apply to a new graduate program or readmission into the prior program, or they may change to a different concentration. Those who were dismissed for academic misconduct are not eligible to apply.
Those wishing to return to school must go through the usual process for admission to the School of Graduate Studies and file a petition for the Graduate Academic Fresh Start program, including a personal statement addressing professional or personal growth during the time since leaving ETSU.
Readmission is conditional and depends upon earning a grade of “B” or better on the first 12 credits earned. Other conditions may be imposed on an individual basis.
