TCAT will host Tennessee Promise event Oct. 18

High school seniors in Tennessee in the 2015 graduating class will have an opportunity Saturday, Oct. 18, to sign up for two years of free tuition to attend a technical or community college.
The Tennessee Promise scholarship event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, 426 Highway 91 north, across from the Elizabethton Municipal Airport, according to Mike Cole, student services coordinator.
The computer lab at TCAT Elizabethton will be open to allow high school seniors to sign up online. Students will also be able to complete an application for admission to TCAT Elizabethton and speak with instructors and tour classrooms and shops. Refreshments will be served.
TCAT Elizabethton offers full-time training programs that take 12 to 20 months to complete in Administrative Office Technology, Automotive Technology, Computer Information Technology, Diesel Powered Equipment Technology, Electricity-Electronics, HVAC-Refrigeration, Millwright/Industrial Maintenance, Pipefitting and Plumbing, Practical Nursing, and Welding.
In the 12-month period ending Aug. 31, 2013 at TCAT Elizabethton, the program completion rate was 90 percent, the job placement rate was 90 percent and the licensure pate was 92 percent on the Tennessee Board of Nursing exam.
Nov. 1 is the deadline for high school seniors to sign up online at www.TNPromise.gov for the Tennessee Promise scholarship.
