Two incidents of arson were reported at a home on Bear Branch Road in Roan Mountain over the weekend.
Jerry Oaks reported to Carter County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Larry Vaughn that someone tried to set fire to a house between 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. The home belongs to Larry and Elizabeth Koon of South Carolina.
Oaks reported that he found the fire damage while he was walking his dog. Vaughn said the left rear bedroom window of the house was broken.
Vaughn contacted Koon and advised him of the damage. When Koon arrived later in the day, he found damage inside the home. Beds were burned in all three bedrooms, as were a chair in the living room and a table in the dining room. There was smoke damage throughout the house.
Oaks told Vaughn that a few days earlier someone had tried to burn the exterior of the home, and Oaks showed Vaughn damage on the outside of the structure.
