ERWIN—A stingy defensive effort propelled the Happy Valley girls to a win to stay perfect in league play in Erwin, which another effort nearly saw the boys topple Unicoi County Tuesday night.

The Lady Warriors (6-1, 2-0) scored a 59-52 win against the Lady Blue Devils while the Blue Devils (6-4, TRC 1-0) were able to score the nightcap victory 51-37 over the Warriors (3-3, 1-1).

Sophomore Dylan Putman and freshman Trevor Hensley tacked on 11 each in the victory and aided the Blue Devil offense to move a 23-14 halftime lead to 41-19 at the end of the third.
