Bristol—Even though the game stayed tight, the Warriors could not overcome the scoring deluge from Hurricanes’ Riley Blevins Wednesday night during the Alpha Natural Resources Basketball Tournament inside of Virginia High School.
Blevins rained the threes, sinking five for the night as he guided the Hurricanes to a 62-52 victory. He lead the game in points with 30.
“We could not stop him tonight,” Happy Valley head coach, Chuck Babb said about Blevins. “He had a huge game against us.”
The Warriors had three double-digit performances from Brandon Young (14), Josh Hammonds (13), and Corey Matherly (10).
“We didn’t do a very good job of defending,” Babb said. “I think they played a little harder than we did. That was the big difference in the fourth quarter. They made a lot of plays in the fourth quarter, and we didn’t. We did not shoot the ball well tonight, at all. That was another factor. We also made several crucial turnovers, you know. It was just to much to overcome.”
Happy Valley will continue tournament play Friday against the Tazwell High School Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
