A miraculous half-court shot at the last second from Happy Valley’s Jenna Eaton, kept the Lady Warriors alive as they defeated Cloudland 61-56 in double overtime Saturday night inside of HVHS.
The Lady Warriors were down 45-42, with just seconds left in the fourth, when Eaton launched a half-court shot that would connect to tie the game, sending the teams in to overtime.
“Jenna had done that once in her eighth-grade-year for a ball game win, and it meant a lot to her as a senior,” Happy Valley head coach Larry Abel said.
In the extra frame, the teams came out even again, going in the double overtime knotted up at 53-53. In the final period Happy Valley was able to out score the Lady Highlanders 8-3.
“We had some chances in overtime to put it away, we jumped out to a four-point lead then had a couple of turnovers,” Abel said. “Cloudland battled back right there and ended up tieing it up and sending it into another overtime. And we did a good job in the last overtime in getting out there and getting the lead for a 61 to 56 win.”
The Lady Warriors were led by a stellar performance from Kalee Johnson, who recorded a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds. She was followed up by Eaton who had 19.
Johnson was on point from the foul line hitting 14 of 15.
Cloudland was dangerous from out deep as they sank seven treys. Mull was the most lethal as she posted four triples and 20 points. Mull was helped out by a Faith Russell who had 16.
“Cloudland played hard,” Abel said. “They battled. . . And I have to give them a lot of credit.”
