Mamree “Melvia” Davis

Mamree “Melvia” Davis, 82, of Hampton, Tenn., passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Carter Country, she was the daughter of the late John and Maude Robert Miller.
“Melvia” was a member of Woodby Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and she loved raising a garden and canning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Davis; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Davis; and brothers, Bill Miller, James Miller, Gurney Miller and Junior Byrd.
Survivors include her children, Gary “Van” Davis and Shirley McKinney, both of Elizabethton, and Robert Davis, Hampton; grandchildren, Shona Davis, Elizabethton, Melissa Davis-Hyder, Hampton, and Jason McKinney, Elizabethton; great-grandchildren, Rickey McKinney, Erwin, Adylnn Davis, Elizabethton, and expecting another great-grandchild in June; a brother, Eddie Miller, Hampton; and several nieces and nephews with one special niece, Janice Bennett Gentry. Three special friends, Avanelle Arnett, Yvonne Miller and Myron Hyder, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mamree “Melvia” Davis will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Darryl Bailey and Rev. Ted Lewis officiating. Music will be under the direction of Lindsey Harsh. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Street Cemetery, Oak Hill Community. Active pallbearers will be Rickey McKinney, Jason McKinney, Myron Hyder, Greg Hartley, Hoyt Sprinkle, Tracy Singleton, Dave Campbell and Tim Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Clark, Jackie McMahan, David Nidiffer, Con Woodby, Dennis Woodby, Debbie Hyder, Kenneth Baker, Bill Bailey, Kevin Miller, William Miller Jr., Bryan Markland and Rick Hyder. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also call at the home of Gary “Van” Davis, 401 S. Second Street, Elizabethton, or at the residence, 5231 Piney Grove Road, at any time. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, the ICU Unit of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, the third floor nursing staff and to Dr. Smith of the ER.
