MURFREESBORO—Tonight, the Lady Cyclones, after surviving a 38-34 close call at the hands of Westview High School Friday, will square off with the Martin Luther King Lady Royals in the semifinals of the TSSAA BlueCross Basketball Championships.

After upsetting the, then, undefeated Christian Presbyterian Academy 46-43 in the TSSAA State Sectional, the Lady Royals are a team that are on a roll. Friday during the opening round, The Lady Royals defeated Cannon County 69-48.

Their biggest threat comes in a form of a trio. Pulling post duty, is the 6-foot MTSU commit, Jordan Majors. Majors is a towering contender, who was averaging 16.4 points and 13 rebounds a game coming into the tournament. She is complimented by the fast paced play of point guard Brianna Smith, who, like Majors, averages around 16 points a match. Rounding up the group of three is Molly Kafarder, who, in the Lady Royals last two games, has scored in the double-digits. She led MLK with 14 points during their upset of CPA.

During the Lady Royals opening win against Cannon County, Smith recorded 22 points and 3 assists. However, she seemed to have had a hard time as she only hit 3 of 13 field-goal attempts but made up the difference by going 16 for 17 from the foul line.

Majors provided a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, going 9 of 16 in FGs. Kafader came in with 13 points.

This is the MLK’s second-straight visit to Murfreesboro, after being ousted 49-47 by Westview during last year’s opening round.

The Lady Cyclones and Lady Royals will tip off tonight at 9 p.m. CST, 10 p.m. EST.
