Marcella Faye Smalling Markland

Marcella Faye Smalling Markland, 69, 143 Amanda Smalling Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Marcella was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Charles “Charlie” Smalling and Amanda Bowers Smalling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Markland; her very special daughter, Tammy Markland; and a brother, Larry Smalling.
Mrs. Markland was a homemaker and had attended Harmony Free Will Baptist Church and Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed “making garden” with her “little buddy” (grandson) Noah, and she enjoyed her cats, dogs and music.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Markland and wife Jill, Hampton, David Markland and fiancée, Jacqueline Stonecipher, Elizabethton, and John Markland, Elizabethton; a very special sister, Sandra Stophel, Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Sydney Markland, Alyssa Markland, Gabby Vanover, Ruthie Harold, Noah Markland, David Stonecipher and Annaha Stonecipher; and a special niece, Amanda Baize.
A service to honor the life of Marcella Faye Smalling Markland will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Brandon Young officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the homes of either of her sons at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 18, in the Taylor Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bernie Lewis, Dustin Buckles, Gerald Buckles, Wyndell Baize, Timothy Pendlebury and Mike Nidiffer. Honorary pallbearers will be Lide Markland and Jeremy Hardin. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Monday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the family and friends that cared for and loved Marcella. Also, to the ICU staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, especially Courtnie, for the care given to Marcella during her stay.
