On July 25, young outdoor enthusiasts will be in for a day packed full of adventure as the Friends of Roan Mountain host the seventh annual Xtreme Roan Adventures Youth Rally at Roan Mountain State Park.
The fun will start at 8 a.m. and will run through 4:30 p.m. There will be many activities to take part in, such as, a salamander adventure, a snakes adventure, a superhero adventure, a geocaching adventure and many other activities to allow kids to learn more about the natural world around them.
“The kids can do anything that interests them,” Ken Turner of the Friends of Roan Mountain said.
The Friends of Roan Mountain, a group that has been holding naturalist rallies in Roan Mountain for the last 55 years, felt that kids needed a rally themselves, so seven years ago they started up the youth rally, Turner said.
“Kids are sitting on couch with the video games and are disconnected from the natural world,” Turner said. “The rally gives the exposure they need. A lot of kids talk about seeing a certain animal on TV, this gives the chance see those animals in person.”
Registration forms are available at www.xtremeroanadventures.org. The cost per child and adult is $5.
The night of July 24, starting at 8 p.m., there will be a free Friday Night Adventures to kick off the youth rally.
