Thursday inside T.A. Dugger Jr. High School the Jr. Lady Cyclones celebrated senior night in style as they defeated Vance Middle in two straight games.
The Jr. Lady Cyclones are having a good season with a 7-3 record on the season.
“It has been a battle,” coach Tonia Smith. “This is the only game were we have only played two games. Every other match has been three game matches. . . Our team has heart. That is the important thing about this team. We have heart.”
In game one the Lady Cyclones made things look easy as they took the game with a 25-8 score. The match was opened up with TAD’s Morgan Smith smacking eight-straight serves that resulted in Jr. Lady Cyclone points. Game one was capped off with Smith slamming down a shot for a kill.
“Morgan is definitely a big hitter for us,” Smith said. “She had a good match tonight.”
In game two, things tightened up as Vance kept things close through out the game. TAD was finally able to take the win 25-19.
“I think the first game Vance had some errors that helped us,” Smith said. “In the second game Vance came ready to play. They were not going to curl up and die. We had to earn the win. They started making fewer errors, while we were less consistent.”
The second game became tied at 10, before the Jr. Lady Cyclones took off and jumped out to a 17- 12 lead.
Next Tuesday, TAD will travel to Unicoi.
